A date to cherish

Every year since 2005 I've cherished that Canyon is alive on November 19th. He made it to another one! Every Nov 19th I remember how I almost lost him, and I'm glad he is still here. I don't usually do sappy blog entries, and I didn't write a letter to my kids on their birthday, when I should be grateful that I have them. But on this day in 2005 Canyon was 16 months old and was knocked out of our friends arms and was washed away in a very large wave at the beach on Saba. I'd never felt panic before that and I've never felt anything like it since. It was only maybe 10 seconds before they found him swirling around in the foam, and two more before he was in our arms, but it felt like hours. I've never been able to rid the image from my head of watching the white surf swirl around that was supposed to have a boy in it, but didn't. Of course true to our baby boy he came up out of the water, hardly sputtered, then said 'football' because someone else had it. I'm glad he made it through that November 19th and that he has made it to another one still. Our Heavenly Father must have some plans for him here, and I'm so grateful.

I remember that day. I remember how scared you were. I am so glad that it turned out okay. Life in the Caribbean has handed us many scary moments, but all worth it.

I didn't know the date of Canyon's adventure. I still get chills thinking of how the empty surf looked and wondering what if . . .

Hug him for Grandma, who is also so grateful for each day he is here (and misses him a lot).

BTW: I love the new blog name. It's not accurate but it is cute.
